I was never meant to be in the media industry. I went overseas with no game plan. I didn't know what I wanted to study, and that was certainly the fault of our traditional schooling system.

It felt so good to go from being the actor, a model for a modelling agency, to actually taking the responsibility of looking after other talent.

It's a very competitive and cutthroat industry, the modelling industry. What you have are certain players that are threatened by a new company, especially if you're doing things well. I was never one to go out and socialize with my models and have many model parties and do the stuff that's usually expected in the industry.

Doing branded content shows is where we kind of made a name for ourselves. It's a very competitive industry, but a very difficult space because anyone can produce content - the buzzword is you've got to create content to be relevant.

With startups, the barrier to entry for creating content has come down drastically in the last 10 years. Access to good equipment has come down.

I am so passionate and that's why my new business is the first of its kind, which is always a good thing for a business because you've got no competition and you're creating that blue ocean. I think that's one thing that entrepreneurs must always look at first before launching something is, who's your competition?

It's true, Africa's at the top of everyone's tongues at the moment. When you go to Europe, they speak about Africa, in the States, everyone's pushing for Africa. There's a reason why Netflix has put up offices here because they want to start telling those true, authentic stories.

Stories in the video form are the most important stories you can tell, and that's a fact.

There are a lot of brands producing amazing content in South Africa and they've been doing it for years. If you're looking at traditional media, like the big above-the-line million rand TV ads, you can't fault what VW has done over the years.

I've been through it all, I've been through all the emotions. The thing about being an entrepreneur is it's a rollercoaster from the beginning. The highs are high and the lows are lower than you'll ever be.
