Cloudy Deliveries is a delivery service that is similar to Uber Eats, except that we use bicycles to do deliveries for local restaurants, supermarkets and other stores within the community of Langa. To do the deliveries we employ young people in the community, some of them are still in high school and some of them are out of high school.

In townships and communities, you'll find that a lot of young people cannot sustain themselves. With Cloudy Deliveries, we offer them an opportunity to be able to sustain themselves and an opportunity to serve their communities.

I was working at Old Mutual, getting paid every week, and every time I got paid, I would save some of the money.  I went around Langa buying second-hand bicycles.

When we were starting off, I just went to guys that I knew in the street that I stayed in, and I spoke to them and told them about what I'm looking to do.

The second-hand bicycles I bought didn't last much longer than three weeks. A guy called Tony Elvin in Langa donated seven bicycles to us and that's  when we were able to sustain the business and get the guys uniforms and stuff. 

You need to tell your story. You shouldn't be scared to ask. If you tell your story and you tell people where you are and what you need, you will find that people will be placed at your disposal. People will start coming towards you. 

You send us a WhatsApp message with your address and we will dispatch a driver to your address. When he gets there, you will give him a list of all the things you want from the supermarket, for example. He will go get them for you and come back and charge a fee.

When we were starting off, people didn't really trust us because we were a bit shady. We had reflectors and it was young people that we employed. So people were scared to give the young people their money because it would mean that they might not come back. What really helped us is branding.
